I came across this eponymous Australian interjection while reading Immoveable Feast: A Paris Christmas.

On my way downstairs to Google the word and find out its meaning, its meaning dawned on me.

So I Googled to confirm my perspicacity.

How perspicacious are you?

From the 'internal evidence' my guess would be Ernest Hemingway. Am I perspicacious?

No; not Hemingway. Australian by way of Cockney East End of London. But not only the provenance of the word; also it's meaning. What does "Strewth" mean?
