Dear Beloved,
At least $12,000! That is the amazingly good news about this year's Fifth Annual Preschool Auction and Second Annual Pig Roast!
And we have so many people to thank so profoundly. Our donors, including the Altar Guild (double-basket!), Gretchen Bayer, Art and LoriLee Bielski, the Brookies (especially Carolyn Cook), Kathy and Kevin Christenson, Alison Cioffi-Brown, the Deerfield Park District, Dick Emerson, Blanche Esgar, Fast Signs, Elouise Friedberg, Carolann George, The Grand Hotel, Mike Hill, Beverly and Ralph Laurell, Catherine and Ron Martin, Dale and Nancy Nichols, Kristy Pokorny, Preschool Parents, David and Tina Reynolds, Bill and Ingrid Roberts, Donna Shelton, and Jaine Spellman and Bill and Janet Foltz (child care).
Especially we want to thank Chef Greg and Teresa Benish who donated the pig and all the fixings, apart from the bodalicious baked beans and coleslaw donated by Earl and Maryellen Davis. And a bravo and applause for Rob Cunningham for the gift of his wonderful ambience and delightful performance on vocals and guitar.
We are also grateful for the many volunteers, from basket and auction item preparation (Barbara Schaper and Catherine Martin), to set-up (Sara Lemrise, Barbara, David, Matthew, and Scott Schaper, and Lyle and Sybil TenEyck); from pork pullers (Dan Appelbaum, Greg and Jason Benish, Jim Collins, Earl and Maryellen Davis, Brian Frye (Greg Benish's friend), Erika Hernandez, moi, and Lyle TenEyck) to ticket and raffle sellers (Marty Esgar and Catherine Martin), from beverage servers (Art Bielski, Ida Butler, John Craig, Jo Dun, Curt and Mary Keller, and Wayne Peterson) to kitchen assistants (Erika Hernandez and Sybil TenEyck), from silent auction/wine pull (the Four Schapers) to live auction recorders (Ida Butler and Wayne Peterson), and always extra thanks to the clean-up crew: Marty Esgar, Mike Hill, Sara Lemrise, moi, Matthew and Scott Schaper, Fernando Soberano, and Lyle and Sybil TenEyck.
From early morning until mid-afternoon, the hog was roasting. . .
. . . while the early-arriving crew waited . . .
. . . until it was finally reading for pulling . . .
Brian Frye and Chef Greg Benish led the culinary charge . . .
while Matthew, Barbara, and Scott Schaper made sure the Parker Room was ready for the silent auction bidders.
Let the bidding begin!
More photographs next week, and also on St. Blogory's in the days to come.

Come and enjoy a delicious, truly Mexican dinner, see their beautiful new sanctuary and building (which the congregation has already outgrown!) and meet people from across our deanery, from Antioch to Crystal Lake. Date: Sunday, October 3, from 5:30 pm to 9:00 pm. Please RSVP to moi.
PRAYER AND DONOR APPEAL
Allyx Davison is a new addition to our prayer lists. She is the 16 year old daughter of friends of Kristy and Steve Pokorny, and her Hodgkin's disease has returned. She is having bone marrow replacement, and so she needs a steady supply of blood and platelets throughout October, November, and December. Each week Allyx will need at least two blood donors and two platelet donors― platelets are fragile, and last for only five days.
If you can donate, please email Nancy Cohn at nlcohn@aol.com. She will guide you through the process. I hope St. Gregory's will be a wonderful Point of Pentecost for Allyx and her family.
Faithfully yours,

On Sunday, October 17, One in Christ Church, the Korean Episcopal Congregation now worshipping at the former St. Hilary's Church, will be having a three-fold celebration: the first anniversary of their move to the church; the thirty-ninth anniversary of Korean ministry in the Diocese of Chicago, and the twenty-fifth anniversary of the ordination to the priesthood of their former vicar, the Rev. Meredith Woods Potter. Mother Meredith will be the guest preacher at the 10:30 am Holy Eucharist.
