My friend and priest colleague, Joe, who sent the delightful digital Nativity which I posted yesterday, also sent me the link to a hymn.
When I began to listen to it, and read the refrain, I was certain I'd heard it before, and even sung it. Then a thought leapt into my brain. I found my old Hymnal 1940 and, sure enough, there it was: Hymn 321!
I am sure it was one of Father Hanner's favorites, and that we sang it frequently at the Church of the Holy Comforter during the 1960s.
It's about as Victorian as they come, right up there with What a Friend We have in Jesus, but the words in both are true in every age. So sing along and let your heart feel strangely warmed!
O Come to my Heart, Lord Jesus! There is Room in My Heart for Thee.
