HIGHLIGHTING OUR CAREER RENEWAL MINISTRY
Career Renewal will be holding its next bi-monthly meeting on Sunday, July 17. Advisors’ meeting is 9:15 and Participants join at 10:15. In addition to welcoming new Participants and meeting with existing Participants, the meeting hosts speakers to present meaningful topics to the group. Some recent presentations have been:
· Power of Being Positive During a Job Search
· Myths and Realities in Job Search
· LinkedIn Seminar
Career Renewal was established in 1986 by a group of individuals from Holy Cross Catholic Church and St. Gregory’s Episcopal Church. Members of this original group were primarily from the health care industry and were anticipating their jobs would be eliminated. They banded together to support and to assist one another in their impending job searches. This was the beginning of what we know today as ‘downsizing’.
Career Renewal is different from other job groups in that the organization is a ‘coaching’ group and ‘walk with’ the Participant. Participants are assigned an Advisor to work one-on-one with and have face-to-face or telephone meetings with as they progress through their job search.
Though the last couple of years have certainly been trying times our process has continued to assist job seekers and amazingly, the success rate of this organization has stayed relatively constant at about 60%! If you are seeking new employment, in a job transition, or would like to consider becoming an advisor, you are encouraged to attend this upcoming meeting to observe. Timmy Cunningham, ten year old son of Rob and Maggie (Darja) Cunningham, is enjoying his first year singing with the Chicago Children's Choir. This summer he will be performing at Ravinia twice with the choir. The first performance on July 30th will be Tosca, one of the most popular operas of all time and an acknowledged masterpiece of music drama. Then on August 18th he will return to Ravinia as part of a live musical performance of the movie Lord of the Rings. As the Children’s Choir performs the music, the movie will be displayed in its entirety on giant screens on the lawn and in the pavilion. (This is really a “must see.” Perhaps some congregation members would like to attend as a group!!) Then during the upcoming season he will be performing on the stage of the Lyric Opera of Chicago in Boris Godanov. He will also be making his Orchestra Hall debut with the Chicago Symphony in Carl Orf's Carmina Burana in which he will be performing with his father. His parents write: “ we are so proud that he has been offered these wonderful singing opportunities!”

SOBERANO FAMILY DEPARTURE
Fernando, Joanna, and Mark Soberano will be returning to the Philippines at the end of this month. Unfortunately, between their vacation time and Joanna’s speaking commitments there is no time for our parish to schedule a formal “send off.” However, we would like to present Fernando with a “purse” for his faithful and committed service to us as sexton. If you would like to contribute to the purse or sign a card for the family, the parish card will be at the secretary’s desk in the church office. You may also leave your own personal note or card there. Contributions may be left in the church office or placed in the offertory on either Sunday July 17 or July 24. All checks should be made out to St. Gregory’s Church and in the memo line, please note: “Soberano purse.”
