An Evening of Putt-putt and Frozen Yogurt
This last Wednesday, July 20th, the junior and senior high youth had a summer evening outing at Par King for putt-putt and afterward, for a delightful frozen yogurt, at Swirl Cup. Since the youth program has been in transition between youth ministers this past summer, the youth have missed the typical summer Wednesday evening outings. However, the Youth Commission thoughtfully planned this evening for the youth, which had a great turnout (eighteen kids altogether, including 3 graduated alumni)—and was well worth the wait.
Despite the heat, which was in the high 90s, the youth braved the 18 holes of extravagant putt-putt, filled with moving targets, artistic obstacles, and waterholes. Swirl Cup could not have come sooner, refreshing our bodies and minds over tasty frozen yogurt. Each individual was given his or her own cup to fill with any combination of assorted flavors—and some combinations were quite inventive, to say the least. The adults and youth spent the remaining time together at Swirl Cup in community and fellowship, from which we all departed home.

As my first outing with the youth I was glad to have had both the activity at Par King and the time to get to know some of the youth and the adults better at Swirl Cup. Thank you to the devoted volunteers and members of the Youth Commission who made this evening possible. We are indeed looking forward to a wonderful new beginning, particularly if this past Wednesday evening is a sign of things to come!!

Blessings,
Bret Chandler

For your calendar: Troop Packing night SEPTEMBER 20th in Founder's Hall at 7 PM
Please save your used summer reading paperback books for Troop Support. We need appropriate reading material. Adventure/thriller/murder mystery books urgently required.
Have you see our AIRBORNE Screaming Eagle Banner? We at St. Gregory's were awarded this very special flag that was flown in our honor over a base in Afghanistan. It is a treasured memento of our Troop Support Ministry, but the banner is missing. It was last seen on the corkboard in Founders Hall at the end of our last packing night in May. This banner is an important and cherished symbol of our troop support ministry, and we are very anxious for its return. If you have any information on the location of this treasured flag, please call the office and leave us a message.
We have had a particularly HOT and miserable summer. But what we have had to put up with for a few hours or even a few days is just “life as usual” for our troops who endure months and months of high temperatures with no air conditioning, cold drinks or the possibility of escaping to beaches or family picnics. (One unit even wrote us about cooking an egg on the hood of their Hummer!) So let’s turn our heat wave into a prayer wave. Let’s turn this hot summer into an opportunity to remember how blessed we are and how much we owe to the men and women who voluntarily are enduring far worse conditions for you and for me! Feeling hot? Then pray for our troops who are even hotter!!
