The Welsh and Malagasy Connection, 1

I concluded yesterday's post with a Prelude connecting Wales and Madagascar. The Prelude was titled "Gwahoddiad" (pronounced Gwah-hoe-thee-ahd), meaning "Invitation."

The invitation is God's, as the first line indicates: "Mi glywaf dyner lais" (Mee glow-ahv duh-nair lice) meaning "I hear your tender voice."

The refrain for this Welsh hymn begins, "Arglwydd, dyma fi" (Ar-gloo-eethe, duh-muh vee) meaning "Lord, here I am." Here's a wonderful rendition by the Morriston Rugby Football Club Male Voice Choir.

Surprise: I heard this very same tune sung frequently and with great power at church services throughout Madagascar! And there's a very good reason.
