The sixth in a series of Easter Letters— meditations for Easter People
Easter 2006
The delicate tulips
with hints of orange and pink.
The deep purple hyacinths
heavy with scent,
and their fragile blue companions,
flowering in hope.
The cross, emptied of the carpenter,
stands vigil over the Garden, bereft.
Shabbat Shalom.
Sabbath Peace.
"May God establish his Kingdom
May God's salvation blossom
and his anointed draw near
in your lifetime and in your days."
The first day of the week— cock-crow.
Cock-crow? A fleeting memory. . . gone.
Suddenly a blaze of light bursts forth like a thousand suns and——
Suddenly the startling beauty of tulip and hyacinth is itself startled and——
Suddenly the world is awash with light and even startling beauty is dull.
Jesus emerges from the tomb.
And startling beauty is more startlingly beautiful than ever.
For ever.
The Lord is Risen. . .
Hallelujah!
